Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart – Symphony No. 41 in C Major (Jupiter)

For this delightful concert program, SoNA pairs one of the most famous pieces ever written — Mozart’s Symphony No. 41 in C Major (Jupiter) — with some of the greatest music you may have never heard! The first half of this performance is an exploration of relatively unknown pieces from three different continents (Australia, Europe, and South America), after which musicians will return to Europe for Mozart’s Jupiter. This powerful piece of music raised the bar for all composers who came after Mozart, complete with a barnstorming finale. Also on the program: the melancholic but optimistic Russian Rag, by Australian composer Elena Kats-Chernin; the hauntingly beautiful Tenebrae, by Argentine composer Osvaldo Golijov; and the fantastic Trombone Concerto, by Danish composer Launy Grøndahl, featuring SoNA’s principal trombonist Cory Mixdorf.

Concert sponsored by George & Mary Benjamin and Alan & Sherri Lamb. Soloist Cory Mixdorf sponsored by Tom & Jill King.
